A life in textiles.
Twenty years of bespoke soft furnishings — built on craftsmanship, detail, and a love of cloth.
It started with a felt bag.
Gerry’s creative journey began in childhood in the 1980s — making felt bags, experimenting with textiles, and falling in love with the feel of cloth. She excelled in Home Economics, then trained formally at South Thames College, Camberwell College of Arts, and Middlesex University, where she completed a BA (Hons) in Constructed Textiles.
Her early career was spent with leading London designers — including tufted rug designer Helen Yardley, and three formative years specialising in Roman blinds at Three Mice Blinds.
Gerry Sykes Design opened in 2005.
What began as a single curtain-making service has grown — slowly, deliberately — into a full bespoke soft furnishings studio.
Over twenty years, we’ve made pieces for designers, decorators and homeowners across London — from a single statement cushion to whole-house dressings.
We’ve kept the studio small on purpose. Every piece is measured by Gerry, cut by hand, and finished with the kind of attention you only get when one person sees the work through from start to finish.
“What began as a childhood love of textiles has grown into a lifelong creative journey, rooted in craftsmanship, detail, and a passion for making beautiful, thoughtful pieces by hand.”
Quiet values.
Handed down, made by hand.
Craft
Hand-stitched headings. Hand-rolled shades. The slow, careful work that machines can’t match.
Detail
A weighted hem. A perfectly matched pattern. The details most people never notice — but always feel.
Trust
A one-year guarantee against failure. Twenty years of returning clients. The same hands on every piece.
